Second to the common cold, Periodontal disease is the most common among Americans today. It affects over 75% of Americans over the age of 35 years old and is the major contributor to tooth loss. Periodontal disease is quite literally a disease that affects your gums or other structures of your teeth. Gingivitis is the beginning stage of periodontal disease and is caused by the simple build up of plaque. This type of plaque build up will inflame your gums and cause them to become infected.
When Gingivitis is left untreated it can lead to periodontal disease. This condition is characterized when the bone beneath the teeth begins to erode as a result of this untreated infection from the Gingivitis. Your gums may begin to bleed and abscesses are very common at this advanced stage. There are many lifestyle factors, which can make a person more susceptible for periodontal disease that include improper nutrition, improper brushing, smoking, drugs, excessive alcohol consumption and sugar consumption. Vitamin C deficiency is generally related to mouth conditions such as periodontal disease and gingivitis.

Some of the symptoms you might experience if you are suffering from periodontal disease or its beginning stages of gingivitis include sore gums, bleeding when you brush your teeth, red and visually inflamed gums (red in color), and sores appear in the mouth on your tongue, gums or inside of your cheeks and infection noticeable to the eye. There are many different natural ways to prevent this type of gum disease that can literally erode your teeth, check out the list below to keep your mouth as healthy as possible.

  • Coenzyme Q10 provides the energy required to promote gum cell growth and the healing of gum tissues. This natural supplement can be taken in dosages of 100 mg daily for best results.
  • Vitamin C is an essential vitamin that promotes healing, particularly of bleeding gums. Vitamin C also can help repel excessive plaque build-up. This vitamin can be taken in dosages of 4,000-10,000 mg divided throughout the day.
  • Vitamin A is needed to ensure proper healing of the gum tissue and should be taken exactly as directed for best and safe results.
  • Grape Seed Extract is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that can help reduce the symptoms and onset of Gingivitis.
  • Vitamin B Complex is needed for proper digestion and healthy mouth tissue. This supplement can be taken in dosages of 50 mg daily.
  • Applying Aloe Vera directly to your inflamed gums can help reduce the discomfort and soothe the tissues.
  • Goldenseal destroys the bacteria that causes periodontal disease and can be taken 3,000 mg per day.

Although periodontal disease is one of the most common conditions in America today, there are many natural healing solutions that can be utilized to make sure your mouth and gums are as healthy as possible.
