indigestion

Indigestion is something that many people pass off as symptoms that are part of everyday life but the truth is that indigestion is generally a symptom of a more serious stomach condition or a condition within itself. The symptoms of indigestion are very well known and should be analyzed when you encounter any one of them on a regular and consistent basis. Symptoms that include abdominal pain, allergic symptoms, bloated feeling, burning sensation after eating (heartburn), insomnia, belching and nausea just to name a few of the most common.

Did you know that chewing with your mouth open or talking while you are chewing can cause indigestion? When you begin chewing with your mouth open for whatever reason, you are literally swallowing air and this is the main cause of indigestion for many people today. Also, drinking liquids with your meal can create a greater risk of indigestion because the liquids dilute the enzymes needed for proper digestion. Of course, certain foods can cause indigestion as well because they can irritate the digestive tract. Take note of these foods if you are a constant sufferer of indigestion. Alcohol, caffeine, greasy or spicy foods, refined foods and vinegar are the most common irritable foods.

When your food is not digested properly, it ferments in the stomach and upper intestines and produces hydrogen, carbon dioxide and organic acids, which are the main cause of gas and bloating. Also take note of psychological factors such as anxiety, stress, disappointment and worry, which can contribute to indigestion and create the same symptoms as we have listed above. Your digestive system is very sensitive and if you don’t take care of it you will no doubt experience these symptoms on a regular basis. There are many natural solutions and remedies that can help you keep your digestive system running clean and smoothly.

  • Mixing a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with every meal will help the digestion process.
  • Proteolytic enzymes are important when it comes to the breakdown of protein for proper absorption which can help combat gas and bloating, the common symptoms of indigestion.
  • Garlic is a natural supplement with numerous different benefits and one includes its role in digestion as it destroys unwanted bacteria in the bowel from food that was not digested properly. I recommend Kyolic from Wakunga of America, which is a powerful organic garlic supplement.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids help you maintain proper digestive function and should be taken as directed. The brand I use and trust is Carlson's liquid fish oil.
  • A high-potency Vitamin B complex formula is essential for normal digestion and can be taken 100 mg 3 times daily.
  • Zinc can be taken 20-50 mg per day and is required for the proper digestion of carbohydrates and protein metabolism.
  • Aloe vera is an herb, which can help relieve gastrointestinal and heartburn symptoms. It is recommended to take 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice on an empty stomach once in the morning and once before bed.
  • Parsley can be taken to relieve the indigestion with just a few sprigs if it's fresh or 1/4 teaspoon if its dried with a glass of warm water.
  • It is also recommended to consume well-balanced meals with plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables rich in fiber to prevent indigestion.
  • Since digestion begins in the mouth be sure to thoroughly chew your food.
Indigestion is a condition that you do not have to experience on a regular basis and can lead into more serious conditions such as chronic heart burn and even stomach conditions that will lead to a painful way of life. Take control over your digestion tract and promote healthy function with natural remedies.
