A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure, which literally removes the uterus. This is done for many different reasons, but the most common is when a couple does not want to have kids or has already had their family. A more serious reason for this procedure may be fibroid tumors or benign growths on the uterus that can cause many different internal problems. Statistics show that more than 30% of the hysterectomies performed in the USA today are done to remove fibroid tumors. There are many different health symptoms that may lead a woman to consider a hysterectomy and these include constantly feeling bloated, urinary tract problems, heavy or long menstrual periods, swelling in the abdominal area or cancer. These are the most common symptoms and reasons for a hysterectomy and unless there is a life threatening condition present many times your doctor will not recommend a it due to the quality of life you will experience after the procedure. After the procedure many women experience problems such as the abrupt onset of menopause due to the removal of the ovaries. This hormonal loss can lead to increased risk of bone mass loss, which of course can lead to osteoporosis, and the increased risk of heart disease. Another common problem after a hysterectomy is the lowered or completely diminished sexual desire. Studies have shown that this diminished sexual desire may be because of the removal of the ovaries, which produce androgens. Hormone therapy and replacement can help alleviate this problem. Let’s look at the natural remedies and treatment alternatives that can aid in the recovery process of a hysterectomy.
