Fluoridation has been within a controversy for many years now in regards to whether it should be included as a mineral within our drinking water today. One of the main reasons fluoride has been labeled dangerous began in 1961 when it was recorded in the Congressional Record that fluoride was a lethal poison. On the other hand it has been argued that fluoride is a natural supplement that can help promote strong bones and teeth. Opponents who fight negatively against the fluoridation of our drinking water contend that drinking high levels of fluoride can create toxic levels within the body. The build-up within the body of fluoride can create irreversible damage to the immune system. It is important to note that there are two different types of fluoridation. Natural fluoride, which is known as calcium fluoride and the fluoride used in fluoridation of water. The difference is that calcium fluoride is not toxic or dangerous at all, but unfortunately this type of fluorine is not used for the purpose of drinking water surrounded around the controversy. Today more than half of the cities within the USA fluoridate their water supply; in many states this form of fluoridation is actually required. Even with this required form of water treatment, ailments and disorders have still been linked to fluoridation. Some of these conditions include Down syndrome, mottled teeth and cancer. Each individual has a different level of tolerance when it comes to toxins such as fluoride and of course the lower your tolerance levels are the more likely you are going to experience a higher risk of cancer and other life threatening conditions from this drinking water. The standard amount of fluoride per million is generally one part but in some states they are slightly raising this amount of fluoride within their water. When the EPA realized that many of the water supplies throughout the country contained higher natural levels of fluoride than one part, they raised the legal limit to 4 parts per million. With this information that so many local water supplies are fluoridated you can now be able to understand that more and more packaged foods, soft drinks and any other produce made with water also contain high levels of fluoride. With this water cycle only becoming that much more common and accepted it can be hard not to see why so many Americans are constantly digesting high amounts of fluoride within their daily diet, with or without their knowledge. This type of controversy has only spurred and encouraged the bottled water industry, as people would like to eliminate this type of toxin from their diet. Your best bet to improve the quality of your tap water is to invest in a high-quality water filter as you now know it will be well worth it. I've read good things about the company aquasana although I haven't personally used their products. I plan to do an evaluation of their water filter in the near future and will publish my opinion on it. Unfortunately, there are so many toxins that we ingest daily and don't even know it. You can, however, minimize consumption of toxins by taking control of what you are putting into your body and make yourself knowledgeable about this type of controversy that's upon our society today.
