Erectile Dysfunction - Erectile Dysfunction 2006
Written by Frank Mangano
Did you ever notice that as the years go by it seems that new plagues, diseases and health complications seem to be coming out of the wood work? It also seems that right along side every one of these issues is a magical answer that usually appears in the form of the "miracle pill".

Erectile dysfunction (ED) which is also known as impotence is one health complication evident in many Americans. It is so evident in fact, that it affects 15-30 million Americans and nearly 140 million men world wide.

Erectile dysfunction can be attributed to four primary causes. The first is a preexisting medical condition such as a cardiovascular disorder. Erections are produced from blood flow in the penis. Therefore, a cardiovascular condition which affects blood flow, would in turn affect an erection.

Second, there is tobacco and nicotine. As if people didn’t have enough reasons to stop smoking, risk of erectile dysfunction can now be added to the list. Third on the list is stress and or depression. And last but not least is prescription medications which coincidentally are the catalysts fueling my desire to discover 100% natural methods to treating conditions and staying healthy.

Most people are familiar with one of the most popular "miracle pills" designed to treat this condition—Viagra. What most people may not be aware of is the long list of side effects that accompany it. Here are just a few:

  • Headache
  • Writer’s Cramp
  • Heartburn
  • Infertility
  • Heart Disease
  • Urinary Tract Infection
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

Did you know that some men even suffered heart attacks after ingesting this poison? Basically, Viagra "works it's magic" by increasing levels of a compound in cells called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). While cGMP was previously thought to inhibit platelet clumping, researchers say that this compound promotes clumping by causing platelets to become stickier. Clumping such as this is a factor in causing heart attack and stroke. These findings have led researchers to believe that there is in fact an infallible link between Viagra and cardiac death.

Now I realize that the frustration that accompanies this condition can be quite overwhelming but there are healthier, safer and more natural alternatives than prescription meds such as Viagra. Here are two of my top recommendations for treating this condition without losing sleep at night.

First, always remember that sexual stimulation occurs throughout ones whole body. It is not just limited to one’s genitals. In fact, in men the brain is not only one of the major places where sexual stimulation occurs, it is also where it begins. Basically, the brain sends impulses down the spinal cord to the nerves in the penis which induce the production of nitric oxide. Acetlycholine (ACH) is the neurotransmitter that causes the sexual message in men and women. Lack of of ACH results in decreased sexual activity. ACH levels can be safely and effectively enhanced by taking choline supplements (1,000-3,000 mg) and vitamin B5 (500-1,500 mg).

Next, start hitting the gym a little more. Studies have shown that exercise and physical activity have lowered the risk of erectile dysfunction in men. Cardiovascular exercise keeps blood vessels open which is how it prevents heart attacks and coincidentally is how it prevents impotence.

Remember, in today’s fast moving world of "miracle pills" the quick fix can actually wind up being the sick fix. Always, seek a more holistic and safer method to solve your problems. Or better yet, just refer back to this site for a "wealth of health" information.
