Researchers at The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have found that turmeric and black pepper can actually halt the growth of breast tumors. This research was published in the Breast Cancer Research and Treatment journal. This curcumin and piperine solution made it so that stem cells could not propagate. Normal breast cells were not impacted, however, and this fact shows that these compounds would not negatively affect normal breast tissue. Lead author stated, “"If we can limit the number of stem cells, we can limit the number of cells with potential to form tumors." The study noted that the piperine could work together with curcumin to make it more effective. Therefore, if you are incorporating the herb turmeric into your diet, be sure to liberally put black pepper on your food. Drugs like tamoxifen are designed to prevent cancer but they also often have toxic side effects. Turmeric is a powerful and natural compound that may reduce the risk of certain cancers. I supplement with it daily. Black pepper and piperine have also been shown to suppress colon and lung tumors. If you are concerned about cancer, a daily dose of turmeric is recommended.
