Assiduous Acid

When it comes to knowing what’s best to eat, most of us are satisfied by someone simply telling us what that food is so we can go out and buy it. In other words, we don’t really care what makes leafy green vegetables so good for us, we just want to know what they are and how quickly we can get them.

Well for those who are interested in such a thing, this article is for you.

Certainly there are many chemical processes and nutrients that make any quality food great for the body, but one of the best is called lipoic acid. Lipoic acid is a nutrient found in virtually all plants and assist said plants in converting food into energy. Without lipoic acid churning in the body of a plant, the plant would die, as the lipoic acid gives the plant the energy it needs to convert nutrients into energy for growth.

So if lipoic acid is so essential to plant life, one can only imagine how beneficial it is to human life. And according to several studies, it’s quite beneficial indeed. In fact, it’s been shown to help reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, weight gain and fatty liver disease. Other studies indicate it may even help slow down the aging process.

Lipoic acid’s effectiveness in fighting atherosclerosis I found to be particularly impressive. When researchers from Oregon State University supplemented rats with doses of lipoic acid, prime risk factors for atherosclerosis became less severe. For instance, their cholesterol levels dropped (the LDL “bad” kind), as did their body weight. Further, lesions indicative of atherosclerosis lessened in size, by an average of 55 percent in one group of rats, and 40 percent in another.

So, how does one get these assiduous acids into their system? Usually it requires eating more of a certain food, but that doesn’t seem to work with lipoic acid. While it’s abundant in most vegetables and organ meats, researchers say it would take an inordinate amount of food to increase one’s lipoic acid’s levels one iota. As such, they suggest taking a lipoic acid supplement. These supplements are widely available from well-known nutritional outlets like The Vitamin Shoppe and Vitamin World.

Just as more weight is lost when working out on an empty stomach than a full stomach, lipoic acid is better absorbed on an empty stomach then a full one. In short, take a 100 mg capsule first thing in the morning for maximum absorption.
