<p>In a recent scientific research published in the journal <em>Food Chemistry </em>in Taiwan, it was found that the compound EGCG or epigallocatechin 3 gallate can help reduce low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or bad cholesterol and also prevents glycatin of blood sugar. Glycation is a process whereby sugar molecules are able to bind with other types of molecules such as protein.  Glycation is characteristic of conditions such as type 2 diabetes or adult onset diabetes.</p>
<p>To mimic actual conditions in the human body, the in-vitro study simulated in-vivo conditions by using human blood serum.</p>
<p>According to the researchers Chi-Hao Wu, Chi-Tai Yey and Gow-Chin Yen, the resistance of bad cholesterol to anti-oxidant activity was directly countered by the introduction of polyphenols found in green tea.  EGCG was also able to inhibit glycation in the same in-vitro studies.</p>
<p>Based on this research, the researchers stated that modest health benefits related to heart health and diabetes can be acquired through regular drinking of green tea.</p>
<p><strong>Benefits of drinking green tea </strong></p>
<p>And there are other reasons to love green tea:</p>
<p>1. Due to its antioxidant properties, green tea has been viewed in the world of alternative medicine and naturopathy as a natural cancer preventive both in men and women.</p>
<p>2. Reducing oxidative stress can also help reduce pain, which is why drinking green tea can also help people with chronic conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism.</p>
<p>3. There has been some evidence that green tea can help reduce the incidence of heart diseases by lowering bad cholesterol.</p>
<p>4. Increasing the amount of antioxidants in the body can boost the immune function, which effectively reduces “sick days” and helps the body bounce back from illnesses such as the common flu or the common cold.</p>

<p>7. A study in Japan showed that people who regularly drank tea were at less risk for cancer and heart problems.</p>

<p>9. Green tea has also been noted as a potential ally against Parkinson’s disease.  Antioxidants help prevent the brain from suffering from too much oxidative stress.</p>
<p>10. Green tea can help regulate the natural fluid balance of the body.</p>
<p>11. This beverage can also help reduce the incidence of allergies because it is capable of blocking allergy receptors, like a natural anti-allergy medication.</p>

<p>According to new research from the US, a compound found in the popular vegetable broccoli is capable of targeting and killing off cancer stem cells.  According to the research, which was published recently in the journal <em>Clinical Cancer Research, </em>the compound sulforaphane was capable of killing off cancer stem cells <em>and </em>prevented new cancerous growths from emerging.</p>
<p><strong>Broccoli vs. cancerous tumors</strong></p>
<p>Collating their data with other earlier studies on the subject, the US researchers noted that sulforaphane was able to reduce the resistance of cancerous tumors to conventional treatment.  Since the compound reduces tumor resistance, a second theory arose: the compound may be the key to solving the problem with relapses, or recurring cancer.</p>
<p>The researchers further noted that people who consumed more broccoli tend to have <em>less risk </em>of breast cancer.  Since the compound is derived naturally from the vegetable, it has very low toxicity and can be utilized by the body easily (high bioavailability).</p>
<p>Bioavailability is an important concept in medical treatments because if a drug has low bioavailability, it becomes less effective and the patient would eventually need to take higher doses of the drug to get the desired results.  To date, sulforaphane has already been marketed as a food supplement.  However, the <em>amount </em>of sulforaphane in supplements is not being regulated.</p>
<p><strong>Broccoli vs. diabetes</strong></p>
<p>It seems that like a few other organic compounds like resveratrol, sulforaphane is enjoying widespread popularity because it provides so many benefits.  In another study published in the medical journal <em>Diabetes, </em>it was found that the same compound may be helpful in reducing the vascular damage associated with long-term diabetes.</p>
<p>As you may know, diabetes causes a <em>lot of problems </em>to diabetics, including damage to blood vessels.  This damage to blood vessels may even cause blindness if the diabetes is not treated and monitored correctly.</p>
<p>Sulforaphane, according to the study in <em>Diabetes, </em>was capable of reducing the damage to body&#8217;s blood vessels by activating enzyme production.  The enzyme produced <em>protects </em>the blood vessels from the ravages of diabetes.</p>
<p>The compound also helped the body by helping produce enzymes that disabled free radicals in the body.  In yet another study, the compound offered hope to family lines with histories of cancer.</p>
<p>It appears that the compound was also capable of <em>preventing cells </em>from passing on damaged or corrupted genetic information to the next generation of cells.  In another study (this is the fourth!) sulforaphane was also linked to reducing the chances of <em>aggressive prostate cancer </em>in men by more than forty-five percent.</p>

<p>One of the most common liver diseases related to obesity is called <a href="http:/www.naturalhealthontheweb.com/fatty-liver" target="_blank">fatty liver</a> disease.  Unfortunately, doctors currently believe that this issue has no form of treatment.  However, researchers from the Virginia Commonwealth University have discovered that Vitamin E can help patients with fatty liver disease.  Researchers were surprised at these findings, as typically vitamin supplements are only thought by medical professionals to treat problems caused by nutritional deficiencies.</p>
<p>When people have fatty liver disease, fat can build up in the liver and cause inflammation as well as scarring.  Eventually this can cause a liver to fail in some extreme cases.  Fatty liver disease is common in middle-aged people who are overweight.  Up to 5% of Americans are reported to have this issue.</p>
<p>In this new study, 247 people with advanced fatty liver disease were assigned to one of three groups.  One group took vitamin E in a high dosage, one group took a placebo and one took a<a href="http://www.naturalhealtontheweb.com/diabetes" target="_blank"> diabetes</a> drug called Actos. Biopsies showed that those who took Vitamin E saw a 43% increase in liver function.  While participants who took Actos also saw improvement in their livers, the percentage of increased liver function was not as high as in the group taking Vitamin E.  Also these people who took Actos gained weight during the experiment.</p>
<p>Other treatments for fatty liver disease include losing weight by eating right and exercising.</p>
<p>Aside from treating fatty liver disease, <a href="http://www.naturalhealtontheweb.com/skin-care/vitamin-e.html" target="_blank">Vitamin E</a> also has a number of other health applications.  As an antioxidant, it can fight cell damage that is caused by free radicals.  It can also protect against prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.  As Vitamin E taken in large doses can be toxic, be sure to follow the recommendation on the label.  Also, consult with your physician prior to supplementing with Vitamin E if you&#8217;re taking a blood thinner.</p>
<p>Last but not least, synthetic vitamin E doesn&#8217;t work the same as natural Vitamin E.  Therefore, be sure to take the natural form, which is D-alpha tocopherol.</p>
