I was very skeptical about using Stevia. I refuse to use artificial sweeteners and was searching for a healthier, natural alternative to sugar. I have researched Stevia and apparently Stevia-based sweeteners have been used in Japan since the 1970s – ever since that country banned artificial sweeteners. To this date, after being used by tens of millions of people for more than 40 years, there has not been a single consumer complaint about Stevia.

I have been using the Sweetleaf brand for several months now and absolutely love it! You can now purchase it at any Whole Foods store.

SweetLeaf can be used in hot drinks, cold drinks, is great on cereal, brings out the delicious flavors in fruits, can be used in cooking and baking, makes great-tasting desserts and is incredible in smoothies and blended drinks.

Thanks so much for the information about the gum. I have been trying to locate a gum that does not contain aspartame for a long time. Every store I go to I check at the register and do not see any. Now I know I have to go to a health food store to buy Spry.

I applaud Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino, D-Albuquerque for bringing up this bill. Ever since I learned about the harmful effects of aspartame, splenda (aka sucralose) and other artificial sweetners, I have been on a quest to avoid them. From my research, I have learned it is an excitotin which accumulates in your body. It literally stimulates neurons to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. The brain depends on a delicate balance of excitatory and inhibitory systems. When their concentrations rise above a critical level, however, they can become deadly toxins to the neurons and nerve cells. The damage is cumulative and often not noted for several years. Glutamate, aspartame and glycine are three amino acids the brain uses unaltered. So another food additive to avoid is MSG. I wish the FDA would ban that one too. It is found in so many foods and goes by so many different names. One is only sure of avoidance by buying organic foods.

The only thing organizations that use these food additives care about is making money--it certainly is not about the health of people.

Did you know Donald Rumsfeld was one of the biggest pushers to get aspartame approved through the FDA. For what? Big business and money.

If he watches Dr Mercola's video, Sweet Misery, he will have all the evidence he needs. To order the tape, go to mercola.com. You can also read his articles, type in Aspertame in his search window. Aspertame was developed as a pesticide. It makes a good ant killer. Also check out Sucrolose. (Splenda), vaccines, and see they are doing to the babies, Flu shots and read why I quit getting flu shots. Then GMO foods, and see what Monsanto is doing to you.

Hi Annemarie,

Thanks for participating in my blog.

ORBIT chewing gum does IN FACT contain the toxic chemical aspartame as well as other artificial ingredients. Therefore, I suggest you stop chewing this type of gum and switch to a healthy chewing gum instead.

Here's the gum you should be chewing:

http://www.naturalhealthontheweb.com/chewing-gum/xylitol.html

Spry gum contains all-natural Xylitol, which is natural sweetener. As always, I have no financial ties to this company.

Best of health,

Frank Mangano

I consume quite a bit of ORBIT Chewing Gum. How safe is this? And are there any harmful sweeteners in that product?
